How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging on tumblr since 2012, I did however have some lame other blogs before where I wrote about my everyday life and nobody listened ahaha :(

What made you start blogging?

Oh, to be honest I’m not quite sure, I think I randomly found tumblr and thought it looked fun and so I joined ahah
I stayed because I thought it was entertaining with all the hipster girls and their dip dyes, to be honest I didn’t really have anything better to do haha. Obviously a lot has changed, now tumblr is more of a hobby.

Who are your favorite bloggers?

I feel so bad whenever i get this question because there is no possible way to answer it. I literally have a ton of favorite bloggers, I consider all the blogs I follow as my favorite bloggers and all members of the bad bitch clique and the clueless bitches (clique) to be my favorites and friends.

What blog style do you categorize yourself in, why’d you choose that one?

I’d say I’m a fashion/personal blog, if that makes any sense. Because I post 90% fashion, however it’s always fashion I like, I also post things about myself sometimes so I suppose it makes my blog somewhat personal too.

What are some tips you would give to a new blogger?

Hm, just have fun, find a style you like and post whatever you like etc. Find some friends to talk to, it makes everything so much more fun.
Don’t listen to rude people just be yourself xxx

Tips to gaining followers?

<br<r <Wow, I’m kind of the wrong person to ask, the way I gain followers is by being personal (posting pictures of my life/me) also winning promos. So I’d say, be active, always have a queue up, BE PERSONAL - as in post things about yourself and pictures you’ve taken, I personally love it when the people I follow are being personal ^-^ Have a good blog in general, talk to people and be nice ahah

Ruby Weir // Seventeen //  Mullumbimby, Australia
Bio:
I grew up around the beaches of Byron Bay and the hills and mountain ranges that lie behind them. The area fed my love of creativity and has inspired many aspects of my work. I’m currently at the tail end of my HSC year at high school which has been very stressful but it has also allowed me an opportunity to create a substantial body of work that holds both skill and conceptual meaning. I’m interested in topics such as identity, memory, human fragility and nostalgia, I’ve explored these ideas in both the written word and portraiture.
What’s your favorite piece of work that you have created? (Including  a link would be great!)
THIS work is my favorite of the series of self portraits I’m currently working on; I feel it’s the piece that holds the most resemblance to me. However I really enjoyed sketching up this portrait of KATE MOSS and I love its unfinished, ill proportioned aesthetic.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I’m working on my Body of Work for the HSC art course. It consists of 9 self-portraits drawn in graphite then overlaid with digital lines and patches of transparent colour. It’s ultimately a visual/physical representation of how anxiety twists and distorts the mind.
What are your goals for the future, both work wise and life?
In January I’m moving down to Melbourne with a few of my girlfriends where I’ll study (hopefully!!) visual communication design or fine arts. I’m not exactly sure where I’ll go from there but I dream of New York! Career wise I’d love to start up a publication that features art, design and short stories/ written pieces, either that or work at an art gallery curating and putting together exhibitions. I really love and enjoy writing so it would be great if I could combine the both.
What are you doing when you’re not creating? What (other) hobbies do you have?
At the moment my free time consists of studying! ehhhh. But when a spare moment arises I like to catch up with my friends over coffee or down at the beach, there are heaps of hidden waterholes and waterfalls in my area so during school holidays my friends and I are exploring those. A good book is another way I like to waste time!
Where else can we find you? (Website, twitter, facebook etc)
Tumblr : Rubyand-art
Instagram : @RubyWeirDo you have any tips or inspiring words for others?
For other aspiring artists I say keep creating, experimenting and making marks with your hands.
Do you admire any artists / photographers? (Famous or not!)
So many! Jen Mann, Del Kathryn Barton, Gemma Topliss, Dessie Jackson… the list goes on haha! As for less widely known artists, my friend Lucy Garland has amazing technical ability in the field of drawing and illustration, she amazes me!!
Favorite tools to work with?
I love graphite, its simple and it gets the job done, but charcoal also has a great effect. In the future I hope to master paints, i’m very envious of people who have!

HOW TO: DEAL WITH A BAD DAY
We’ve all been there, those days where you just feel down, uncomfortable, and so tired you can get yourself out of bed. It’s completely normal. Yes, at the end of the day we still need to maintain a positive attitude and move on with our lives. But it does not make you less of a person, or weaker, when you just let your emotions soar once in a while. In fact, that’s what makes us human.

Here are 5 little steps I like to take to bring myself back on my feet again.

Express yourself.

This is something I advocate a lot. Keep a journal, write songs, make vlogs for yourself to watch. Express yourself. Self-expression does not necessarily need to be translated into words, it can be through facial expressions, tunes, a new outfit. Anything. The sky is literally the limit. Sometimes you just need to let out that negative energy to make room for positive ones.

Listen to music.

Whether it be One Direction and Taylor Swift, Radiohead and the Beatles, or Lana del Rey and City and Colour. Doesn’t matter. Listen to something that soothes you, something that makes you feel good.

Binge-watch some television and eat some junk food.

This one is a given. I don’t see anything wrong with eating down your sorrows. It’s a perfectly normal coping mechanism. Have a good laugh with Modern Family with your best friends Ben&Jerry.

Go out.

Go for a run, or a Starbucks run with your friends (or by yourself, a little alone time is always healthy). Maybe catch a movie. Especially in the summer time, go soak up that Vitamin D (seriously, your body actually needs that!), go breath in some fresh air for your body. Perhaps you will get some mosquito bites but trust me, it will be worth it.

Sleep.

Sleeping is like the on/off switch for humans. Go to bed and when you wake up it will be a new day. A new and a GOOD day. Leave all the bad thoughts behind you and restart. Think about the incentives – you live another day, you get to eat more delicious food, meet more interesting people, learn more mind-blowing stories. And who knows what the future will bring!

TEEN HANGOUTS
Warning to all Apple Customers: Siri is not your friend. It’s time to get off those devices and socialize with your pixel-free friends! I have the perfect teen activities to fill up your weekends! Here are my top 5 ‘must do’ hangouts for you and your friends:

ICE SKATING
Whether it’s indoors or out, Ice-skating can be one of the most enjoyable activities for large and small groups. If you’re decent on the ice, you can have some friendly competition with the girls. If you’re like me, and you’re ice-skating abilities are amateur it can still be a great laugh with friends. Ice skating is the ‘go to’ activity for bonding and escaping that heat this summer!
La ’CARNIVAL
I’m extremely lucky to live in what is known as ‘the festival state’, but even if you don’t, there are always show grounds or outdoor festivals that you can enjoy. Get out with some friends and enjoy the rides, take pictures and let off a little steam at the ‘dodgem cars’. Carnivals are great places to visit both at night and during the day!
MOVIE MAYHEM
I’m not talking about the fancy indoor cinemas with a candy bar and those annoying queues… no way!
Why not make use of the amazing screenings at the drive-in cinema, enjoy the classic ‘romcoms’ with girlfriends, or scream your way through a late night fright movie! If you don’t have a drive-in cinema, you can always get out your camp chairs and set up a theatre in your backyard.  Popular Mechanics  has the DIY instructions to help make your backyard cinema the prize of the neighbourhood.
LAKESIDE LOUNGES

Anyone who has seen Cheaper by the Dozen 2 will remember little Taylor Lautner racing around on a jet ski by his summer house. Although that would be awesome, there are many other fun things to do without spending a cent. My personal favourite, sun-lounging on inflatable mattresses! There’s nothing better than being kissed by the sun while slowly drifting across the uninterrupted waters. Well, not if you have friends like mine… the sun lounge quickly turns into a wrestling arena where the last one standing gets a free ice-cream and doesn’t have to carry anything home. Splashing around with friends by the pool or at a lake can be the best of fun, and make most of the summer time weather!

PANICKED PICNICS

Not everyone’s idea of a picnic involves teddy bears and teacups! The best types of picnics are those semi unplanned trips where you randomly stop at a nice destination and pull out that picnic rug from the boot of the car. You could bring out the snacks from your road trip and just enjoy the outdoors. Explore the beaches if they’re around, or walk among some forests – whatever you decide. These spontaneous picnics, for me, often end in hours of conversations about the most unimportant of things! ‘Panicked picnics’ as I call them, are the perfect getaways from reality and are a great way to hang out with friends.

Could you start by telling us a bit more about yourself?

My name is Caitlin but on tumblr most people know me as Cait. I’m 15, nearly 16, and I currently live in New Zealand. It’s super cold right now as it’s winter, and it is a beautiful place but really kinda boring. I’m practically an only child but I have 3 half siblings who don’t live with me (if that makes sense). I’m really into blogging, music, fashion, eating good food, history, and art (even though I am not actually gifted in the artistic area). I have been on tumblr for quite a while now and most of the time I enjoy the people and the friendly nature of the bloggers. It is a place for me to express myself, make friends and just have fun. I have a beautiful boyfriend, Noah, who a lot of my followers are familiar with. We have been together for 2 years now. He’s my best friend and always supports me in everything I do, I’m very lucky to have him and absolutely adore him. Some other quick facts about me; I’m currently writing this from Paris as I’m on holiday here, I buy way too many clothes, I’m 5’7 and I like to joke around and be silly.

When did you start blogging and what aspired you to become a blogger? Both Tumblr and your personal fashion blog on BlogSpot?

When I first started tumblr, truth be told, I just started because everyone else on Facebook was on it, and it was the thing to do. You know when everyone went through that Bebo phase? It was just like that. I officially started my blog in 2012 but I wasn’t really properly blogging. I started properly blogging and posting regularly around December 2012/January 2013. I never really expected to have come this far with my blog. As for my fashion blog, aestheticthreads, I started that just last month actually! I created that due to interest from my followers in my style and also because it is something that I have found to be extremely passionate about. Fashion truly is a love of mine and in the end I just thought: ‘Why not share that with the world?’. And as cheesy as that probably sounds that’s how it came about. I had the idea for many many months, but was too scared to actually go forth with it because I was really scared of judgement from people at school etc. But, I now have some amazing ideas and opportunities for posts and things coming up on that blog, and I’m really excited about it. I hope my followers are too!

What blog style do you categorize yourself in?

Strictly speaking I would probably be categorized in the fashion blog style because that is the nature of majority of my posts. But, I personally only put things that I like on my blog, and that’s not always fashion (even though it mainly is) so it’s also a personal blog to me. It’s just an expression of my interests and loves.

What do you like about fashion? In your opinion, how would you describe your sense of style?

I like that the possibilities for how you can present and portray yourself are endless, and that it is an expression of you and you alone. As for my sense of style, although this is what most people say when describing their own style, my style I think truly is my own. I do sometimes follow trends that I like and that is probably considered mainstream, but I also like things that maybe people don’t really like so much. It’s a mix, and in the end as long as I’m comfortable in it, whether its a fashion trend or something some would consider risky, I will wear it. I actually learnt that from my Noah. He always tells me to dress in what I’m comfortable in.

Any favorite bloggers?

Yes a lot, but I have two particular favorites. I would have to say Baitong, from prettysickly on tumblr and idressmyselff on blogspot, is a massive inspiration. She is so unique and really dresses for herself which I think is super cool, and I aim to be that confident in myself one day. Also her style is impeccable and I would totally wear all of her outfits. Another inspiration of mine is the one and only Shelby Hamilton, aka meowshelbs on insta, and thesugarfawn/fawnandboy on tumblr. Shelby is living proof that having a tumblr can actually get you somewhere, even from the most basic beginnings. She is very confident and dresses to please herself. She has come such a long way and I am very proud of her as she is like a symbol of hope for people like me! I really hope I can do something similar to her one day.

Advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

My main advice is to be yourself! People love and take interest in other people who embrace who they are, because most of us don’t have the confidence so we just go along with the rest of the pack being like everyone else. It is a real talent if you can be confident enough to share your style with the world, because it shows that you are passionate and not afraid to be an individual which is very important. Also, use social media to your advantage! There is no harm in wanting to be heard and get your content recognized, read, followed and shared by others. Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Blogspot, Bloglovin’, hashtags and even Facebook can be used to your advantage if you know how to use them. Hashtags especially are great and help your content to be found be people with similar interests to you. And lastly, be genuine and kind. This applies to every kind of blog/blogger. Talk to your followers and be a friend who is there to help them with fashion dilemmas- or any dilemmas! If you want people to really take you seriously you should always try to be kind in everything you do. It can be hard when things in your personal life aren’t going your way, and it’s understandable if you lose your temper sometimes because that’s just human, but being kind makes you feel good and others, too.

SUMMER NAIL LOOKS

This summer I’m loving that I’m able to play around with my nail polish colors often. I find painting my nails relaxing, and I love the way they look afterwards especially. Once you master painting the nails on your dominant hand, you should try the new nail polish looks of the summer.

Colors:

Pastels are totally in and I’d definitely suggest them for everyone. The look good on every skin tone and they really pop if you’re used to wearing black or while clothing all the time.

Keep it bright with whites. Yes, whites. Plural. There are so many different types of white nail polish out there with different undertones. Pink undertones are my personal favorite because it gives a lighter feel to the harsh white. Also, try creams for classy twist on the original.

Bright blues are popping up everywhere too. They give you the feel that you’re going on a tropical vacation when you’re really probably sitting home watching Netflix all day. There are so many different types of blues, but something from the medium hues will do the trick.

Brands:

Essie nail polish is my favorite brand of drug store nail polish. It’s a bit on the pricier side at $9 a bottle but to me it’s worth it. It’s still less than a manicure and if you’re using it often, there’s no reason not to invest. They have a nice array of colors, everything from metallic and sparkle to clear and topcoats.

N.Y.C is my next favorite nail polish brand. At about $2 a bottle, they are quite a bargain. What’s nice about these is you can buy a bunch and go crazy trying them out. You don’t need to worry about sticking to one color for awhile because of the price. You might need to change it up more often anyway because they chip a lot easier than the Essie brand. I would suggest inventing in a nice top coat to stop the chipping slightly.

Tips & Tricks:

From doing my nails myself for a few years, I’ve learned a couple of things along the way.

1) One coat will usually suffice.

2) Always get a nice topcoat.

3) Make sure you have enough time for them to dry!

4) Once they’re semi dry, you can speed it along by running your hands under very cold water so the nail polish hardens quicker.

5) If you know you can’t paint them yourself, try getting a friend or a sister to help you out.

I hope these tips encourage you to try painting your own nails this summer!

KEEP YOUR COOL
I’m in Year 12, currently halfway through my senior year. I know better than most that it is very easy to get lost underneath a pile of homework, come across friendship problems and receive pressure from a gazillion different directions. Sometimes it feels as if it never stops, or it’ll never end. So here are some ways to cope with many things that come along with being a teenager/young adult in the 21st century.

1. Release negative people from your life. I cannot stress the fact that relationships are supposed to bring you up, rather than tear you down. You don’t need any negative influences in your life. If a friend would rather tell you that you looked terrible than beautiful, she/he isn’t a friend. Whether this person is a coach, a friend, a coworker, mentally or physically separate yourself from things that don’t help you keep calm and cherish yourself.
2. Write lists. This is one of the main things I do to help keep my stress under control. I make myself lists of what I want to do, and then I do it. It helps me get them done, as I feel as if I have some sort of obligation to get it done since I’ve written it down. It also helps me realize that I really don’t have that much to do… sometimes.
3. Take time to do things you love. Take time to relax. Giving yourself time to just chill is so important. If you don’t have an outlet or an hour or two to just relax and take some time to yourself, you might burn out or become exhausted. Take up a hobby or play in a sports team, or just read before you get out of bed on a Saturday morning.
4. Prioritize the things you want to get out of every day. Stop procrastination and anxiety by getting what has to be done, done first. You’ll feel really proud of yourself when you can wake up the next day, having done that homework or achieved a new goal.
5. Learn some breathing techniques. This technique is more for when you feel anxious, stressed, angry, or a little of all three. As soon as you begin to feel anything you’re uncomfortable with, breathe in for five seconds, hold for five seconds, and exhale for five seconds. Repeat this as often as you need to. This helps slow your heart rate and centre your thoughts away from what was worrying you before.

1. Could you start by telling us a bit more about yourself?
I’m eighteen, I live in a small suburb about an hour away from Melbourne. Currently taking a gap year, just working and saving up to travel.

2. When did you start blogging and what aspired you to become a blogger?
My first ever post was made back in July 2011. I never really saw blogging as a career when I first started, it was just a hobby.

3. Was it tough when you started and tell us, how did you make your blog so well-known?
I guess you could say so, blogging back then wasn’t as common as it is now so it was difficult to reach a larger audience but now with so many different social media platforms, it’s much easier to promote yourself.

4. I’m quite aware that you would want to be a fashion designer right? Could you give us a little bit of insight on why do you chose that as your career path.
As long as I can recall, I’ve always loved clothes and drawing. My mother is a dressmaker and I’ve grown up watching her design and create her own clothes. As I’m getting older though and learning more about the different departments within the fashion industry, I feel more drawn towards the visual merchandising or styling divisions.

5. In your opinion, how would you describe your sense of style?
My style is very laid back, and casual. I don’t put much effort into my outfits really.

6. What are your plans for the future?
I’m a ‘go with the flow’ kinda girl. I really don’t try to plan too much into the future. I never thought I’d be doing what I’m doing currently so who knows what the future will hold. I do hope to travel within the next year or so.

7. Any favorite bloggers?
I have so many but from the top of my head,I love Yan Yan from Parfasseux, Baitong from Idressmyselff, Hanneli Mustaparta, Chiara Ferragni and The Haute Pursuit.

8. Lastly, can you see yourself in the future becoming a blogger to a bigger worldwide audience?
I honestly have no idea haha.

1. Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
My name is Poppy and I’m 15 from Melbourne, living in the city. I really love shopping/fashion, music and teen wolf! When I’m older, I really want to be stylish cancer surgeon, because I want to help people and get rid of cancer completely :)

 2. Can you tell us about your blog, and what inspired you to start it?
I started my first blog in grade 5 with a friend and it was the worst! Ah I cringe every time I think about it! After that, I made my own and changed styles/blogs almost every year. At one point I had a blog I truly loved the most, it sounds silly but that blog meant a lot to me, that was in 2012. After that, I created this blog and developed it over time into the style it is today, which I’m not really sure what the style actually is to be honest! I reblog a lot of fashion, food occasionally. I really just blog what I like and sometimes I post pictures of myself or my day if I’m feeling extra happy! I’d love to be one of those OOTD bloggers but I don’t have an interesting enough life haha oh gosh.

3. How would you describe your own personal style?
I guess I’m a little bit of a mix, consisting of ‘normcore’, ‘designer’ and ‘blogger’ and myself. I usually only wear black, white, grey and blue, but when I find things I really like I wear them too. I prefer simple to complex because it suits me more and I feel like it’s a cleaner look. I sound so ridiculous but I take what I wear seriously in a way.

4. Favorite Fashion Bloggers / Accounts?
I really like fawnandboy, love-aesthetics and street smith in general, but everyone I follow on tumblr is my favorite basically.

5. Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
I generally never put two patterns together unless they’re a ‘set’. I never wear too much jewelry/bright jewelry; a simple necklace and ring is fine enough, nothing else is needed, and earrings don’t count if they’re studs or sleepers. I generally don’t wear too many colors- if I’m wearing a bright yellow jumper I’m not going to wear neon pink shoes. Also, I believe that you can wear all black and all white, but not any other color unless it’s a dress up party- and you have to wear it well!

6. Favorite places to shop?
General Pants, Ksubi, Sportsgirl, Zara, Topshop and wherever catches my eye.

7. What’s the biggest tip you have for anyone wanting to start or maintain a blog?
I guess just be yourself and love what you blog! Find a style and stick to it, but only post what you like. Just have fun, there shouldn’t be stress in running a blog.

8. What do you love most about blogging?
I really love just making a sort of wall that’s never ending and personal. It’s really cool- Like a wall of everything I like, admire and agree with.
