Could you start by telling us a bit more about yourself?

My name is Caitlin but on tumblr most people know me as Cait. I’m 15, nearly 16, and I currently live in New Zealand. It’s super cold right now as it’s winter, and it is a beautiful place but really kinda boring. I’m practically an only child but I have 3 half siblings who don’t live with me (if that makes sense). I’m really into blogging, music, fashion, eating good food, history, and art (even though I am not actually gifted in the artistic area). I have been on tumblr for quite a while now and most of the time I enjoy the people and the friendly nature of the bloggers. It is a place for me to express myself, make friends and just have fun. I have a beautiful boyfriend, Noah, who a lot of my followers are familiar with. We have been together for 2 years now. He’s my best friend and always supports me in everything I do, I’m very lucky to have him and absolutely adore him. Some other quick facts about me; I’m currently writing this from Paris as I’m on holiday here, I buy way too many clothes, I’m 5’7 and I like to joke around and be silly.

When did you start blogging and what aspired you to become a blogger? Both Tumblr and your personal fashion blog on BlogSpot?

When I first started tumblr, truth be told, I just started because everyone else on Facebook was on it, and it was the thing to do. You know when everyone went through that Bebo phase? It was just like that. I officially started my blog in 2012 but I wasn’t really properly blogging. I started properly blogging and posting regularly around December 2012/January 2013. I never really expected to have come this far with my blog. As for my fashion blog, aestheticthreads, I started that just last month actually! I created that due to interest from my followers in my style and also because it is something that I have found to be extremely passionate about. Fashion truly is a love of mine and in the end I just thought: ‘Why not share that with the world?’. And as cheesy as that probably sounds that’s how it came about. I had the idea for many many months, but was too scared to actually go forth with it because I was really scared of judgement from people at school etc. But, I now have some amazing ideas and opportunities for posts and things coming up on that blog, and I’m really excited about it. I hope my followers are too!

What blog style do you categorize yourself in?

Strictly speaking I would probably be categorized in the fashion blog style because that is the nature of majority of my posts. But, I personally only put things that I like on my blog, and that’s not always fashion (even though it mainly is) so it’s also a personal blog to me. It’s just an expression of my interests and loves.

What do you like about fashion? In your opinion, how would you describe your sense of style?

I like that the possibilities for how you can present and portray yourself are endless, and that it is an expression of you and you alone. As for my sense of style, although this is what most people say when describing their own style, my style I think truly is my own. I do sometimes follow trends that I like and that is probably considered mainstream, but I also like things that maybe people don’t really like so much. It’s a mix, and in the end as long as I’m comfortable in it, whether its a fashion trend or something some would consider risky, I will wear it. I actually learnt that from my Noah. He always tells me to dress in what I’m comfortable in.

Any favorite bloggers?

Yes a lot, but I have two particular favorites. I would have to say Baitong, from prettysickly on tumblr and idressmyselff on blogspot, is a massive inspiration. She is so unique and really dresses for herself which I think is super cool, and I aim to be that confident in myself one day. Also her style is impeccable and I would totally wear all of her outfits. Another inspiration of mine is the one and only Shelby Hamilton, aka meowshelbs on insta, and thesugarfawn/fawnandboy on tumblr. Shelby is living proof that having a tumblr can actually get you somewhere, even from the most basic beginnings. She is very confident and dresses to please herself. She has come such a long way and I am very proud of her as she is like a symbol of hope for people like me! I really hope I can do something similar to her one day.

Advice to aspiring fashion bloggers?

My main advice is to be yourself! People love and take interest in other people who embrace who they are, because most of us don’t have the confidence so we just go along with the rest of the pack being like everyone else. It is a real talent if you can be confident enough to share your style with the world, because it shows that you are passionate and not afraid to be an individual which is very important. Also, use social media to your advantage! There is no harm in wanting to be heard and get your content recognized, read, followed and shared by others. Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Blogspot, Bloglovin’, hashtags and even Facebook can be used to your advantage if you know how to use them. Hashtags especially are great and help your content to be found be people with similar interests to you. And lastly, be genuine and kind. This applies to every kind of blog/blogger. Talk to your followers and be a friend who is there to help them with fashion dilemmas- or any dilemmas! If you want people to really take you seriously you should always try to be kind in everything you do. It can be hard when things in your personal life aren’t going your way, and it’s understandable if you lose your temper sometimes because that’s just human, but being kind makes you feel good and others, too.

WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?
What’s in your bag? Or better yet, what should be in your bag? Read on to find out my top 5 things you should always have by your side.

I don’t know about you, but after a day out, my bag is full of junk that makes it that much harder to find my phone, let alone anything. And it gets so awkward when I’m paying for my Caramel Hot Chocolate at Starbucks and along with my purse out come lip balm sticks, receipts and leftover gum wrappers sprawling across the countertop. So I’ve compiled a list that’ll help you sort out what you really need in your bag, and if that extra lip balm is really necessary.
1. A pen and some notepaper. So you can sketch if you get bored on the train, take some notes while reading the paper or slip that cute boy your phone number.
2. Bobby pins and some hair ties. Being able to change hairstyles at the drop of a hat is always useful, helping you transform a look from day to night, or even just helping pin back those extra flyaways.
3. A lip balm. This one is quite self-explanatory. My personal favourite is Lucas’ Paw Paw ointment; it’s good for everything and the little red tube is easy to find in any bag.
4. Some perfume. Keep yourself fresh and smelling like your favourite scent all day.
5. $5, and a small purse to keep it in. Just incase you get peckish, or need a little bit of refreshment on your travels.

SUMMER NAIL LOOKS

This summer I’m loving that I’m able to play around with my nail polish colors often. I find painting my nails relaxing, and I love the way they look afterwards especially. Once you master painting the nails on your dominant hand, you should try the new nail polish looks of the summer.

Colors:

Pastels are totally in and I’d definitely suggest them for everyone. The look good on every skin tone and they really pop if you’re used to wearing black or while clothing all the time.

Keep it bright with whites. Yes, whites. Plural. There are so many different types of white nail polish out there with different undertones. Pink undertones are my personal favorite because it gives a lighter feel to the harsh white. Also, try creams for classy twist on the original.

Bright blues are popping up everywhere too. They give you the feel that you’re going on a tropical vacation when you’re really probably sitting home watching Netflix all day. There are so many different types of blues, but something from the medium hues will do the trick.

Brands:

Essie nail polish is my favorite brand of drug store nail polish. It’s a bit on the pricier side at $9 a bottle but to me it’s worth it. It’s still less than a manicure and if you’re using it often, there’s no reason not to invest. They have a nice array of colors, everything from metallic and sparkle to clear and topcoats.

N.Y.C is my next favorite nail polish brand. At about $2 a bottle, they are quite a bargain. What’s nice about these is you can buy a bunch and go crazy trying them out. You don’t need to worry about sticking to one color for awhile because of the price. You might need to change it up more often anyway because they chip a lot easier than the Essie brand. I would suggest inventing in a nice top coat to stop the chipping slightly.

Tips & Tricks:

From doing my nails myself for a few years, I’ve learned a couple of things along the way.

1) One coat will usually suffice.

2) Always get a nice topcoat.

3) Make sure you have enough time for them to dry!

4) Once they’re semi dry, you can speed it along by running your hands under very cold water so the nail polish hardens quicker.

5) If you know you can’t paint them yourself, try getting a friend or a sister to help you out.

I hope these tips encourage you to try painting your own nails this summer!

KEEP YOUR COOL
I’m in Year 12, currently halfway through my senior year. I know better than most that it is very easy to get lost underneath a pile of homework, come across friendship problems and receive pressure from a gazillion different directions. Sometimes it feels as if it never stops, or it’ll never end. So here are some ways to cope with many things that come along with being a teenager/young adult in the 21st century.

1. Release negative people from your life. I cannot stress the fact that relationships are supposed to bring you up, rather than tear you down. You don’t need any negative influences in your life. If a friend would rather tell you that you looked terrible than beautiful, she/he isn’t a friend. Whether this person is a coach, a friend, a coworker, mentally or physically separate yourself from things that don’t help you keep calm and cherish yourself.
2. Write lists. This is one of the main things I do to help keep my stress under control. I make myself lists of what I want to do, and then I do it. It helps me get them done, as I feel as if I have some sort of obligation to get it done since I’ve written it down. It also helps me realize that I really don’t have that much to do… sometimes.
3. Take time to do things you love. Take time to relax. Giving yourself time to just chill is so important. If you don’t have an outlet or an hour or two to just relax and take some time to yourself, you might burn out or become exhausted. Take up a hobby or play in a sports team, or just read before you get out of bed on a Saturday morning.
4. Prioritize the things you want to get out of every day. Stop procrastination and anxiety by getting what has to be done, done first. You’ll feel really proud of yourself when you can wake up the next day, having done that homework or achieved a new goal.
5. Learn some breathing techniques. This technique is more for when you feel anxious, stressed, angry, or a little of all three. As soon as you begin to feel anything you’re uncomfortable with, breathe in for five seconds, hold for five seconds, and exhale for five seconds. Repeat this as often as you need to. This helps slow your heart rate and centre your thoughts away from what was worrying you before.

1. Could you start by telling us a bit more about yourself?
I’m eighteen, I live in a small suburb about an hour away from Melbourne. Currently taking a gap year, just working and saving up to travel.

2. When did you start blogging and what aspired you to become a blogger?
My first ever post was made back in July 2011. I never really saw blogging as a career when I first started, it was just a hobby.

3. Was it tough when you started and tell us, how did you make your blog so well-known?
I guess you could say so, blogging back then wasn’t as common as it is now so it was difficult to reach a larger audience but now with so many different social media platforms, it’s much easier to promote yourself.

4. I’m quite aware that you would want to be a fashion designer right? Could you give us a little bit of insight on why do you chose that as your career path.
As long as I can recall, I’ve always loved clothes and drawing. My mother is a dressmaker and I’ve grown up watching her design and create her own clothes. As I’m getting older though and learning more about the different departments within the fashion industry, I feel more drawn towards the visual merchandising or styling divisions.

5. In your opinion, how would you describe your sense of style?
My style is very laid back, and casual. I don’t put much effort into my outfits really.

6. What are your plans for the future?
I’m a ‘go with the flow’ kinda girl. I really don’t try to plan too much into the future. I never thought I’d be doing what I’m doing currently so who knows what the future will hold. I do hope to travel within the next year or so.

7. Any favorite bloggers?
I have so many but from the top of my head,I love Yan Yan from Parfasseux, Baitong from Idressmyselff, Hanneli Mustaparta, Chiara Ferragni and The Haute Pursuit.

8. Lastly, can you see yourself in the future becoming a blogger to a bigger worldwide audience?
I honestly have no idea haha.

1. Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
My name is Poppy and I’m 15 from Melbourne, living in the city. I really love shopping/fashion, music and teen wolf! When I’m older, I really want to be stylish cancer surgeon, because I want to help people and get rid of cancer completely :)

 2. Can you tell us about your blog, and what inspired you to start it?
I started my first blog in grade 5 with a friend and it was the worst! Ah I cringe every time I think about it! After that, I made my own and changed styles/blogs almost every year. At one point I had a blog I truly loved the most, it sounds silly but that blog meant a lot to me, that was in 2012. After that, I created this blog and developed it over time into the style it is today, which I’m not really sure what the style actually is to be honest! I reblog a lot of fashion, food occasionally. I really just blog what I like and sometimes I post pictures of myself or my day if I’m feeling extra happy! I’d love to be one of those OOTD bloggers but I don’t have an interesting enough life haha oh gosh.

3. How would you describe your own personal style?
I guess I’m a little bit of a mix, consisting of ‘normcore’, ‘designer’ and ‘blogger’ and myself. I usually only wear black, white, grey and blue, but when I find things I really like I wear them too. I prefer simple to complex because it suits me more and I feel like it’s a cleaner look. I sound so ridiculous but I take what I wear seriously in a way.

4. Favorite Fashion Bloggers / Accounts?
I really like fawnandboy, love-aesthetics and street smith in general, but everyone I follow on tumblr is my favorite basically.

5. Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
I generally never put two patterns together unless they’re a ‘set’. I never wear too much jewelry/bright jewelry; a simple necklace and ring is fine enough, nothing else is needed, and earrings don’t count if they’re studs or sleepers. I generally don’t wear too many colors- if I’m wearing a bright yellow jumper I’m not going to wear neon pink shoes. Also, I believe that you can wear all black and all white, but not any other color unless it’s a dress up party- and you have to wear it well!

6. Favorite places to shop?
General Pants, Ksubi, Sportsgirl, Zara, Topshop and wherever catches my eye.

7. What’s the biggest tip you have for anyone wanting to start or maintain a blog?
I guess just be yourself and love what you blog! Find a style and stick to it, but only post what you like. Just have fun, there shouldn’t be stress in running a blog.

8. What do you love most about blogging?
I really love just making a sort of wall that’s never ending and personal. It’s really cool- Like a wall of everything I like, admire and agree with.

BODY IMAGE
 It is okay to be thick, thin, healthy, happy, unsatisfied. Your body is yours alone and your size does not undermine your value as a person. Body image is a horrible way to hate ourselves and what’s sickening is that this is what the world teaches us;
“you’re skinny, go eat a fucking burger.”
“fat girls with big boobs don’t count.”
“stop eating, you’re gaining weight!”
“he doesn’t go to the gym. What a loser!”
This thing is like a virus and it’s spreading like a wildfire, manipulating us, telling us, that we need to change our physicality cause it says so. Nobody has the right to make another feel inferior because of their body. The high standard put on by the world for our body is not the only reason why an individual has body image issues.
Our own mind is another enemy to the body because we continuously deceive ourselves, setting an expectation that our body needs to achieve. Model-like figure, etc. However, it is possible to achieve a healthy self body image with the right mindset!
3 tips on how to accept your body:
 i) Appreciate.
Appreciate yourself and not just your body but you in general. Treat yourself with snacks and candy bars and don’t be afraid if you gain a few pounds. Calories are not your enemies so appreciate. appreciate. Let people think it’s vanity if they want to as long as you appreciate your body. Appreciate yourself.

ii) Goal change!
We tend to hope that our body would miraculously turn into a hourglass-figure one day but that’s not how it works. If your goal is to be skinnier than do not make “be skinnier” as your goal. Instead, make it as “eat healthier” “live holistically” “workout often”. These will not make only make it easier for you to achieve it but it would also result some great extras!

iii) Avoid drama (yikes!)
Yes, teen-high-school-shit-drama, avoid it. This does not only stray you away from the toxic people but it also helps you to give time to yourself. Be happy with yourself and start to count your blessings instead of your flaws. Drama does not only make a person feel hated but it also often causes stress and stress leads to depression and depression to cutting and to suicide so please. Avoid drama. Also, without any stress-burden bags on your shoulder, you can be more positive and positivity is the goal you need to strive for.

BLOG: clubfree

1.Hi Bella, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?
Hi! I’m Bella, 15, from New Zealand! I’m currently in love with listening to Flume, reading books (it’s winter here) and drinking tea!

 2. Can you tell us about your blog?
Well I used to have a fresh/modern/neon blog but eventually I got bored of it and decided to try a new style! I love indie blogs so my blog is kinda indie but with a personal twist. I love it because I’m not restricted to a single post style, I just post whatever I like.

3. How would you describe your own personal style?
I would say that my personal style is relaxed, comfortable and stylish! When it comes to clothes I just buy whatever I like and lately I have been buying so much striped clothing its crazy.

4. Favorite Bloggers / Accounts?
I don’t really have any specific favourite blogs or bloggers, I just blog from a bunch of different blogs! But if I had to choose some blogs I would probably say opael, blushayz, daihty and recklessclub they all have such perfect blogs!

5. What bands / artists are you listening to at the moment?
I’ve been trying to get into electronic music so currently I’m into Flume, Sam Smith, 5SOS, The Vamps and heaps of others but I can’t think!

6. Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they?
I love spending time with my friends! I also like to blog (obviously!), shop, read, watch movies and walk!

7. What’s the biggest tip you have for anyone wanting to start or maintain a blog?
Be active! Also have a good theme, stick to a single blog style and be friendly! Don’t be afraid to message people and ask them to check out your blog.

8. What do you love most about blogging?
I love looking through funny blogs and laughing at some of the text posts and photos they have on there, it always cheers me up! I also love chatting and meeting new people over a common interest of blogging. I love everything about blogging!

THE TUMBLR PHENOMENON: I’TS JUST NOT COOL
Things Tumblr has glorified and romanticized to the brink of death- they’re not all they’re cracked up to be…
[[MORE]]
1. Smoking isn’t cool. Let me say it again: smoking isn’t cool.
2. Neither is drug use.
3. Self-harm is not tragically beautiful. It is dangerous and unhealthy, and needs to be treated as such, not as something romantic or lovely. If you self-harm, get help. Period.
4. Being a narcissistic bitch isn’t the way to go about life. Sure, it makes for great text posts, but it alienates you, which is lonely as hell.
5. On the opposite end of the spectrum, low self-esteem isn’t cute. Love yourself and take care of yourself the way that you would take care of your best friend. Don’t let negative thoughts take over your thinking.
6. Depression is a medically recognized illness. For the love of God, don’t self diagnose, don’t throw the term around carelessly, and don’t romanticize it.
7. Same goes for anxiety or other mental disorders.
8. Apathy is not fun. Get excited about something, go out and do something.
9. School is not the worst place imaginable- stop complaining. If you are bullied, teased, suffer from anxiety, etc., that’s a different story. But if you’re just bored, then find something that interests you.
10. Dependency on another human being is not romantic- it’s unhealthy. Enough of this “He/she completes me” bullshit. How about some “I complete myself and they’re along for a hell of a ride”?

*Disclaimer: These are my opinions, not fact. If I said something that was personally offensive to you or that you have a problem with, that was absolutely not my intention. This was more of a rant, not a factual essay.*
